The Wigan Almanacs list John Hatton as a member of Aspull Urban District Council from 1961 to 1967/68.
The Wigan Observer reporting the election results in April 1966 showed John Hatton, Independent, elected to represent East Ward Aspull. His occupation was given as farmer, Hall Lane Hindley.
He was elected chairman of the Council in 1967 and probably remained a member of the Council until the reorganisation of Local Government in 1974.
