Leigh Fire Brigade with petrol-powered fire engine. This engine was named 'WRIGHT' after the Chairman of the Watch Committee, Councillor J. H. Wright. The engine was christened with champagne on 1 July 1922, by the mayoress Mrs G. Holden. The ceremony took place at Butts Bridge. The fire engine was summoned to the ceremony from Windermere Road Fire Station by firing a rocket, in order to demonstrate the speed at which it could reach a fire.
