The Greater Mace
The Greater Mace was a gift to Wigan from Alexander Holt, who was a Goldsmith. On the bottom of the mace it is inscribed with the following:
Rex. Carolus, F.D.,Mag.,Brit.,Fra.,et Hib. The gift of Alexander Holt, Esquire, late of London, Gouldsmith. An Alderman of the same Cythy, and likewise of this ancient Corporation of Wigan, who depart this life Anno Domine 1657. Huic, Dono decem muias adiccit, Alexander Holt, Nêpos Ejusdem et Executor. Testamentarius.
