Holt Leigh of Wigan

This collection comprises mainly the records of Holt Leigh and his son Sir Robert (1762-1843), whose estates weresituated in Wigan (including Whitley), Aspull (Hindley Hall), Blackrod, Orrell and Upholland. Apart from the estate records, the archive includes a large series of correspondence which is valuable in documenting social and economic life in the Wigan district.
