All that can be stated with any certainty is that William Maunders was the last chairman of Aspull Urban District Council before the re-organisation of Local Government in 1974. He is listed as a member of the Council in the Wigan Almanacs published in 1966, 1967 & 1968 and recorded in the minutes of Aspull Urban District Council.

William was born in 1912, in September 1939 he was described as a “warp carrier (cotton manufacturer)” living in Nelson, Lancashire. Isa, born in 1916, was a cotton weaver also living in Nelson. They married at Zion Primitive Methodist Chapel, Nelson, in 1940.

William and Isa Maunders lived in Bolton Road Aspull from the early 1960s and both were buried in St Elizabeth’s Churchyard, Aspull. After Isa’s death in 1975 William moved to Clitheroe.
