Mill girls at Enfield Mill, Pemberton, Wigan, June 1953. The mill owes its existence to Pemberton Manufacturing Co. Ltd. founded in 1907 to build a weaving shed with 400 looms and a workforce of 200. The original plan allowed for expansion to 1000 looms if demand existed, but by the time this picture was taken, the original figure had been increased by just 100.
