During the summer of 2018 local schoolchildren attended suffrage workshops with Wigan Borough Archives & Local Studies. Using archive material the children learnt about the militant and non-militant methods used by groups such as the WSPU and the NUWSS.
To commemorate the centenary of some women over the age of 30 and all men over the age of 21 receiving the vote for the first time the children designed banners and then voted for their favourite. This is the winning banner the children and local people choose, it is designed by a pupil from Lowton St Mary's Primary School.
