International and Olympic runner Fred Norris and his son competing together in Brockton, Massachusetts, USA, 1964. Fred Norris came 8th in the 10,000 metre event at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He was also the first Briton ever to cover more than twelve miles in an hour and worked at Cleworth Hall Colliery, Tyldesley. An article about Fred and his son Edmund appeared in the Leigh Reporter newspaper on the 17 September 1964.
