Scouts and Scout leaders on the 'South Africa Yesterday' and 'South Africa Today' floats at St Luke's annual carnival in Orrell, circa 1937. Scout leaders and scouts appear in 'blackface', and portray racial stereotypes of black Africans. 

Despite offensive content, Archives: Wigan & Leigh keeps this image publicly available to ensure that the history of racism in the borough is not erased. 

Previous description reads:

"Scouts and scout leaders on the 'South Africa today' float. Taken around 1937 at St Luke's annual carnival in Orrell."
