A family watching television in their home in Hindley, circa 1946-1950.
We received further information about this image from Mr Frank Greenough (9.11.16) who added - 'I believe this TV is a HMV Model 2808 tuned to the Midlands BBC transmitter. The model was introduced in 1949 when the Midlands transmitter on Channel 4 was switched on. There was an identical looking version model 1808 for the London area, this would not work in Hindley. Original price of the 2808 was £58 inc tax. The Northern BBC transmitter was switched on in Oct 1951 but the sets cabinets were different. The set in the photo could have been used after 1951 but the owner would have wanted the best picture so I think a reasonable date for the photo would be 1949-1953.
