Chowbent Station, on Wigan to Eccles line of London and North Western Railway which was opened 1st September 1864. Station was just to north of Church of St Michael and All Angels, Howe Bridge. When volunteers from Atherton went to Boer War it was Chowbent Station, became Howe Bridge in 1901. Photo 1903/4.
