Principal items of Wigan Borough Regalia, photographed together circa 1920s. In the centre is the state sword, it was a gift from King Charles II and bears his coat of arms on one side. Crossing the centre are two maces, known as the greater mace and lesser mace, and four halberds. The mayor's staff of office sits across the front of the table and the mayoral chain and badge is at the front. A pewter dish, a silver ewer (or jug), a silver tankard and silver salver (or tray) can also be seen.
The original Wigan Mayoral chain is now worn by the Mayor of Wigan Borough. The pendant and links carry the following information:
'VISIT OF THE Prince and Princess of Wales to Wigan 3rd and 4th of June 1873 for the use of the Mayor and his successors for ever'
