A series of letters from Ministry of Works, Haigh Estate, and Lord Crawford concerning the removal of railings and gates as scrap metal for the war effort. Includes a letter from Lord Crawford starting: ‘it would be a great pity if the gates were taken, the whole group of the lodge forms a complete architectural unit and Wigan cannot afford to lose almost the only architectural feature of distinction is possess.’
