Bridge Street from The Avenue, Leigh, circa 1895-1896. The chimney belonged to an old silk weaving mill chimney originally built in 1827, by William Walker and Co. It later belonged to the cotton weaving firm Guest, Bamford and Danby. The public house on the right is the 'Pied Bull' and on the left is 'Brown Cow'. Rooms of 'Pied Bull' were at one time used as the court house of Leigh, it was demolished circa 1890. Image also shows people including children out in the street.
