Woman’s ‘Yellow’ Coffin, 21st Dynasty, 900BC

Women were often depicted with yellow skin from working inside whilst men were shown with red skin from working outdoors. Good quality wood was scarce in Egypt. This coffin was made from pieces of wood, plaster, paint and varnish. B24.020.
